Guides
The dos and the don'ts.
Last Updated: Oct 7, 2026
These are the habits we keep coming back to when writing and reviewing production code.
CSS and layout
Avoid Bootstrap
Opinionated classes cost you control later.
Avoid Inline Styles
Shared class names are easier to override and keep consistent.
Use CSS Class Names
Anything you style should have a class.
Use CSS Variables
Prefer CSS variables over Sass variables.
Shared Sass Utilities
Split mixins, variables, and classes into their own files.
RTL Support
Direction changes should be a small CSS change.
Standardized Typography
One component per heading and paragraph style.
Truncating Text
Put the full string in the title attribute.
React
dontUseEffect
Most effects are a custom hook, useMemo, or useReducer.
Encapsulate Hook Logic
Keep a custom hook's behavior inside one helper.
Don't Pass Setters as Props
Pass handlers. Keep the update next to the state.
Boolean Props
Boolean props should default to false.
Don't Jump Straight into Redux
Reach for local state before a global store.
Identify Reusable Components
Spot the shared UI before you copy it.
APIs and data
Reusable API Wrappers
One HTTP client for auth, errors, and retries.
Centralized API Routes
Keep every route in one file.
Objectify Function Params
Many optional arguments belong in one object.
Promise.all
Independent work should run in parallel.
Web Storage
Know what localStorage and sessionStorage are for.
Moment.js Is Done
The library is finished. Its replacements are not.
